Consultation meeting

Tuesday 16 November, 3.00pm – 7.30pm,

Clifton Pavilion, Bristol Zoo Gardens

Bristol Zoological Society would like to invite you to our second round public consultation meeting. This drop-in meeting will take place at Bristol Zoo Gardens on Tuesday 16 November, from 3.00pm to 7.30pm with guests free to arrive at any time throughout.

The event will be held on the ground floor of The Clifton Pavilion, with street level access from College Road. It will be a chance for local residents to meet with Zoo colleagues, as well as architects from Penoyre and Prasad (P&P) who are leading the award-winning design team.

The event will be managed in accordance with our own COVID guidelines, with guest numbers inside the meeting space limited and guests asked to wear face coverings whilst inside (unless exempt). Please be aware that this may mean that at busy times guests are asked to wait outside on College Road for a short period.

The sale of the Bristol Zoo Gardens site, with the benefit of planning permission for a residential-led scheme that is sympathetic to the beautiful landscaped gardens, will safeguard the future of Bristol Zoological Society, and contribute significantly to the housing, climate and ecological emergencies that Bristol is currently facing.

We recognise that Bristol Zoo Gardens has a special place in the hearts of many people, and we are genuinely keen to hear more from the community on our plans for Bristol Zoo Gardens.

What can guests expect from this consultation event?

The second round of consultation has been arranged so that guests can receive an update on the progress that has been made towards a masterplan for the site. Those attending the event will be able to see how the ideas and feedback gathered in the initial round of publication consultation have fed into our plans for the site’s future.

Our intent is for Bristol Zoo Gardens to become a remarkable place for a variety of people to live, for nature to thrive, and for Bristolians to continue to enjoy. It will be an exemplar residential community providing good-quality, eco-friendly, low-carbon homes, largely in areas where there are already built structures on the site and with the green landscape at its heart.

Included in our plans is the Clifton Conservation Hub which will provide a new home for Avon Gorge and Downs Wildlife Project as well as space for the wider community including a café, exhibition space, and meeting space, all based from our iconic entrance building.

At this second stage of consultation we expect to share information about the proposed footprint and height and types of dwellings. Please note that detailed artist’s impressions and designs will not be shared until the third and final round of consultation (dates to be confirmed), when residents will also be able to provide their feedback.

The event on 16 November will be similar to our initial consultation events, with several large picture boards provided for you to view. You will again be invited to discuss and contribute your thoughts and ideas and to complete a questionnaire.

Zoom presentation and Q&A

For those unable to attend this in-person event, an online presentation with Q&A has been arranged for 23 November at 7.00pm. If you are interested in attending please email future@bristolzoo.org.uk with ‘online consultation’ in the subject line, and your name and postcode, plus any questions, at least 24 hours in advance, and we will send a Zoom link.

We hope to welcome you to one of these consultation events

Yours faithfully
