Exhibition event
Thursday 24 March, 3.00pm – 7.30pm, Clifton Pavilion, Bristol Zoo Gardens
Bristol Zoological Society would like to invite you to an upcoming exhibition event. This drop-in event will take place at Bristol Zoo Gardens on Thursday 24 March, from 3.00pm to 7.30pm with guests free to arrive at any time throughout.
The event will be on the first floor of the Clifton Pavilion, with street-level access from College Road. It is a further opportunity for residents to meet with Bristol Zoological Society colleagues and architects from Penoyre and Prasad (P&P), the award-winning design team.
If you have any accessibility concerns regarding the venue, please email future@bristolzoo.org.uk at least 48 hours in advance so that we can best accommodate your needs on the day. A stair lift to the first floor is available.
The event is in accordance with our own COVID guidelines, with visitor numbers inside the meeting space limited and visitors requested to wear face coverings while inside (unless exempt).
The sale of the Bristol Zoo Gardens site, with planning permission for a residential-led scheme and improved gardens with free public access, will enable the Society to build a new Zoo at our Wild Place Project site, providing larger habitats for species, which reflect the surroundings in which animals would live in the wild. It will also allow us to address the housing and ecological emergencies that Bristol is currently facing.
We recognise that Bristol Zoo Gardens has a special place in the hearts of many people, and we are genuinely keen to engage with our local community on the plans for Bristol Zoo Gardens.
What can visitors expect from this exhibition event?
This exhibition event has been arranged so that visitors can view the most up-to-date masterplan for the site, ahead of our planning application submission in April. Those attending the event will be able to see how ideas and feedback gathered throughout the consultation process have fed into our plans for the site’s future.
Our intent is for Bristol Zoo Gardens to become a remarkable place for people to live, for nature to thrive, and for Bristolians to continue to enjoy – with the gardens available to visit free of charge. It will be an exemplar residential community providing good-quality, eco-friendly, low-carbon homes, largely in areas where there are already built structures on the site and with the green landscape at its heart.
Included in our plans is the Clifton conservation hub, which will provide a space for the wider community including a café, exhibition space, and meeting space, all in our iconic entrance building.
At this final public event we expect to share information about our architectural vision for the site, with more detailed artist’s impressions and a finalised plan for building locations and heights.
This event is similar to our previous consultation events, with large picture boards and staff and architects available to answer your questions.
We are also holding two presentations at 4pm and 6.30pm where Penoyre & Prasad architects and Bristol Zoological Society team members will discuss the proposals and respond to questions.
Zoom presentation and Q&A at 7.00pm on 22 March
For those unable to attend this in-person event, an online presentation with a Q&A session has been arranged for 22 March at 7.00pm. If you are interested in attending please email future@bristolzoo.org.uk with ‘online presentation’ in the subject line, and your name, postcode and any questions, at least 24 hours in advance, and we will send you a Zoom link.
We hope to welcome you to one of these consultation events
Yours faithfully
