Company volunteer days with Bristol Zoological Society

Posted on: 2 September, 2024

At Bristol Zoological Society we collaborate with a diverse range of corporate supporters in many different ways, from tailored partnerships to corporate donations. They all have one thing in common - they share our dedication to preserving wildlife in the UK and worldwide.

This includes raising essential funds for conservation and education, collaborating and networking, as well as advancing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals and opportunities. We offer a range of opportunities in our partnerships, including bespoke company volunteer days with conservation experts.

Over the past few months, we have welcomed several of our corporate partners for a volunteer day at Bristol Zoo Project, including Marshfield Farm Ice Cream, Natracare, and Ridge Consultants. These days provide employees with the chance to carry out hands-on conservation activities that have a positive impact on our local environment, all while having fun with colleagues.

Our valued partner and supplier Marshfield Farm Ice Cream, joined us in May, dedicating their time and effort to create hibernacula, a variety of shelters, for great crested newts, supported by the Society’s UK Biosecurity Conservation Officer, Neil Green. The team had a fantastic day with us, actively contributing to our conservation endeavours, and we received excellent feedback.

“The team were buzzing with excitement from volunteering at Bristol Zoo Project. Everyone was full of praise and had a super day.”

In June, a great day was had by all when Natracare, our amazing headline sponsors of Bear Wood, joined us at Bristol Zoo Project. The volunteers helped on two projects; our great crested newt work, by maintaining our survey pathways and creating brash piles, a mound of loose branches on top of a base of larger logs or other natural materials that provides cover for birds, small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, and our Defra funded Lower Severn Vale Invasive Initiative (LSVII) project, by tackling a large infestation of Himalayan balsam in Severn Beach, helping to keep this invasive species out of a neighbouring local wetland reserve.

In August, the team at Ridge Consultants joined us for the last Himalayan balsam bash of the season. Our UK Biosecurity Conservation Officer Neil Green, welcomed 15 very enthusiastic volunteers, armed with site gloves, ready to brave the nettles and bramble to help us achieve our Lower Severn Vale Invasive Initiative goals. A huge amount of balsam was pulled, folded, jumped on, and piled high. The weather played ball too, which made the day a real success!

At Bristol Zoological Society, we deeply value the enthusiasm and commitment shown by our partners and we are always grateful for their invaluable support and collaboration.

As a conservation and education charity, we are always seeking to establish connections with corporate partners who are looking to reach new audiences, strengthen their reputations and values, and offer their employees an opportunity to give back.

We have an exciting opportunity at Bristol Zoo Project to create a new conservation zoo where visitors and animals will be immersed in the natural landscape. Over the next few years, Bristol Zoological Society will work to deliver this vision and create an inspiring visitor attraction where 90 percent of species are both threatened and part of targeted conservation programmes, living in spaces more closely reflecting their natural habitats. We cannot do this without the support of our corporate partners whose sponsorship and dedication make a huge difference to our mission of ‘Saving Wildlife Together.’
