Jared climbed Mount Snowdon up the 13km Watkin Path in 2023 and has recently completed a second fundraising climb in Snowdonia, this time up Tryfan and Carnedd Llewelyn, in just 24 hours.
The summit of Tryfan is 917.51 metres, placing it as one of the 14 highest peaks in Wales. This mountain has long been respected among climbers and mountaineers and is classified as a grade 1 scramble along a distinctive ridge of volcanic rock. Carnedd Llewellyn is Wales’ second highest mountain and known to be a rugged and wild summit, with Mount Snowdon being only 21 metres higher.
We are extremely grateful and proud of Jared, who has shared his experience and inspiration behind his fundraising trip with us.
I just love animals and I think we should do more to help them. Bristol Zoological Society helps endangered species and hopefully the money we raise can go towards building new habitats and food, as well as other stuff.
The hardest bit of Snowdon was coming down because my legs hurt so much! Tryfan and Llewelyn were really difficult because of the fog and wind. We had to do quite a bit of climbing and it was dangerous because of how slippery the rock was.
I enjoy knowing that I am helping animals and making them safe.
I can't choose, I love all of them! If I had to, it would be the bears.
Not at the moment, we are still thinking what our next quest should be!
If you want to make a change in the world, then just do it, because no-one is going to do it for you. It doesn't matter how big or small the thing you're doing is, you'll still be making a difference and probably have fun while doing it.
Bristol Zoological Society is an education and conservation charity working in nine countries, across four continents. We’re involved in 40 co-ordinated breeding programmes involving 59 threatened wildlife species and we direct 14 field conservation projects with 31 local partner organisations, that conserve and protect some of the world’s most threatened species. The Society’s vision is ‘for wildlife to be a part of everyone’s life and for people to want to protect wildlife now and for the future,’ and we rely on the generous support of the public to fund our important education and conservation work around the world.
With a mission of ‘Saving Wildlife Together,’ fundraising heroes like Jared are hugely important in helping us look after the animals in our care at Bristol Zoo Project, as well as around the world.
Whether you’re looking for some inspiration or already know what you’re going to do, our new fundraising pack can support you to make a difference. Fundraisers come in all shapes and sizes, from fun events to organised mass events like marathons, whether it’s on your own or with friends, family or colleagues! Every money-making mission, no matter how big or small, means you’ll be supporting our mission to save wildlife.
A huge thank you to Jared Mawbey, a true fundraising hero. We hope his story inspires you to take a leap and support change, as we work to protect and conserve wildlife on our doorstep, as well as around the world.
