Sustainability at Bristol Zoological Society

Acting sustainably means meeting the needs of today's generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland Report - Our Common Future (1987)).

Climate change and the over-consumption of natural resources threaten both wildlife and humanity. Zoos and aquariums have an exceptional opportunity to lead by example and engage the public in a vital dialogue and debate on environmental issues. BIAZA (2021)

Zoos and aquariums are not only leading organisations in animal welfare, conservation, education, and research but are also paving the way for a more sustainable future in which animals, people, and the health of the planet can thrive. WAZA (2020)

At Bristol Zoological Society we have a comprehensive set of sustainability ambitions and targets. Most notably, by 2035 we will become a carbon-neutral organisation.
